Amazon Unveils New Kindle Bookreader

February 11 2009 by GaryP

Version 2 of Amazon's popular Kindle electronic book reader is now available. The new unit is smaller, lighter and faster. It also holds more digital content due to larger storage. I want one. But...

Kindle Highlights

  • Uses Sprint 3G wireless so you can download content to Kindle
  • No cost for using Sprint network
  • Battery life up to two weeks
  • Recharges in 4 hours
  • Lighter, sleeker design
  • Text to speech capable - listen as Kindle reads to you
  • Over 230,000 electronic books available
  • 2GB storage enough to hold up to 1500 books

A sample of what is available for Kindle

New York Times - $13.99/month
Wall Street Journal - $9.99/month
Time - $1.49/month
Newsweek - $1.49/month
Most books at $9.99

I want one but I cannot afford it. $349 is too expensive when I can go to the library and get material for free. Sounds like an iPod nano for Kindle should be in the works.

The Kindle is still too expensive

Its just not worth it at $350. I read about 10 books a year and most cost $10. That's 3 1/2 years of material. Why would I need an electronic reader?

If they can build a cheaper Kindle model under $200 I'll buy one. THEN it will become more practical.
