This morning I woke up really early to jot down my New Years resolutions. While I was doing this, I stopped myself and remembered that I was falling short on some of my goals. After some pondering, I came to the conclusion that discipline, organization, and monitoring were likely the reasons why I wasn't nailing each one of them. So this year, I want to do things differently and use goal setting software to chronicle my progress.
Frankly, I didn't know if goal software even existed. I've used contact managers and project management software over the years. But for my personal goals, I got used to my lo-tech way of doing things. That is, launching Microsoft Notepad and putting all my "to do" items under one section and my "done" items in the other section. Stop laughing.
I recall last year as my done list got big, I deleted my done items. I realized that wasn't a good idea because I wasn't really measuring my progress nor taking any pride of the things that actually got done. Keeping a goals list is a mental thing. Sometimes you have to stroke the ego and measure your self worth by looking back at things you accomplished to help drive you forward. Measuring and tracking success is just as important as accomplishing it because there are lessons learned.
So rather than keep the Notepad list I was on a quest this fine New Years day to find goal setting software that could give me a way to organize and monitor my progress on each goal. Here's a list of products I found.
