I want to learn how to play chess and against people when I get better online. Can someone recommend to me a good chess program?

  3. Deep Fritz

The best program is probably Fritz known for being "strong" against its opponents. It is so good that it has beaten chess masters.

Chessmaster comes next but mostly for hobbyists.

When it comes to chess software, make sure you choose the current version of Fritz as there are a lot of companies that use older versions to try to make a quick buck. Fritz 11 is the current version from the company that originated it - Chessbase.
