Many food processing companies use canola oil.
Canola oil was genetically engineered from the rapeseed plant. The plant is grown in US and Canada and part of a multi-billion dollar industry. It is not widely used having taken only 8% of the US market share of cooking oils. It is used more in Asia and Mexico.
The health benefit claims of Canola oil are that it contains low levels of euric acid, no trans and saturated fat. There have been some questions concerning if it is healthy to use canola oil, most of it unfounded. Several organizations have come forward to defend it including the American Dietic Association and Mayo Clinic.
