Ten Easy Ways To Save Money

March 6 2009 Posted by NycBoy

This recession is taking a toll on all of us. In the spirit of keeping ourselves financially fit, I am offering up some tips on how to save money.

  1. Buy frozen juice, not pre-made

Orange juice is $5.49 a gallon. Frozen orange juice is $1.80 a can. Add another gallon of water at $2.50. If you make 1 quart of orange juice it costs less - $2.40. Why pay more?

  2. Buy Meat In Bulk And Split

Hamburger prices have soared to $2.99 a pound for 80/20. If you buy in bulk, the price drops significantly to $1.99 a pound. What do you do? Buy 5 pounds and split it with family members if you don't need that much meat.

  3. Clip Coupons

Get coupon mailers? Read the newspaper? Save them and go coupon hunting with a pair of scissors in your spare time. Just by doing this you will create the proper mindset of saving.

  4. Save A Buck

Really, save a buck! Take out your purse or wallet. Grab $1 from it. Now run to your piggy bank and stick the dollar in it. Do that everyday for one year. You now have enough money to buy Christmas presents. Empty it and start each year off this way. Cool trick eh?

  5. Buy Event Tickets Last Minute

Want to see a play or production? If its a long running show and isn't in town for a short time, wait until the last minute. Yes, procrastinate. If the seats aren't filled, the theatres will likely reduce the cost of the tickets and you should be there to snap them up.

  6. Look for deals on websites

Just like you can coupon clip, look for deals on websites too. For example even I come to KerryOnWorld every now and then to look for what deals are being displayed. There are a few websites that have better arrangements with retail and manufacturers - take advantage of that.

  7. Go to community college

Got free time on your hand? Instead of sitting at home eating munchies, running the air conditioner or heater, why not go back to school? Many community colleges in your area offer classes like photography, computer, arts and crafts, and sport classes to keep you and your mind active. The cost per unit isn't expensive and its a win-win situation for you, the college, and your community.

  8. Buy An Entertainment Coupon Book

For less than $30, you can buy a entertainment coupon book and save on all entertainment expenses.

  9. Buy CFL light bulbs

Rather than buying regular light bulbs, purchase the compact fluourescent light bulbs to save money on your electricity bill. The bulbs may cost a bit more but in the long run, they will last longer and cut down on your bill.

  10. Dont Wash Clothes In Hot Water

Save energy to heat the water by simply not washing clothes in hot water. There's really no need to wash your clothes in hot water anyway. Think about it!

  11. Pay Bills Online And Save A Tree

No use killing trees, use the Internet to setup automatic withdrawals for your utility bills, mortgage payments, insurance, etc. Another benefit? You save money on postage stamps too.
