Watch out for Reunion.com. These guys are up to no good and are seriously breaching privacy and spam issues. The past two weeks I been getting email messages from Reunion.com. The email messages were faked to be sent from people whom I have had contact with through email, but don't know them that well.
Reunion.com was sending email messages using their names and creating fictitious accounts telling me to join Reunion.com on their behalf. I seriously doubt that these people were even using Reunion.com. What I found out was seriously disturbing and an invasion of privacy.
Reunion.com has found a way to phish my Thunderbird email address book. How I know this is because the names of the people came right from there. These people I've done one off business with and they are not my close friends at all. I NEVER gave Reunion.com the right to access my address book data nor imported the address book into Reunion.com prior.
Whats so stupid about Reunion.com's approach is that all three people happened to make the request the same time. So its obvious this is computer automated and is highly likely that they are representing other people on their behalf. If that isn't identity fraud, I don't know what is.
When I saw this, that put up a big red flag. I was getting a lot of these messages requesting to add me as their friend on Reunion.com. One person was a contractor I hired to put up doors, another someone whom I purchased a music CD from, and the other my real estate broker. These people are not my good friends.
So I registered at Reunion.com just to see what the hell was going on. By doing so, I accepted their friend request and there should have been a direct relationship/link to those Reunion.com profiles. It turns out those friend accounts weren't even real. When I clicked on one link from the suppposed person who knew me, Reunion.com threw up an error. There was no picture for this person either. The other two people weren't even linked in with me after I accepted their email friend request.
Now I figure there is something on my computer that has been installed to pull off email addresses.
Remember, an application had to be executed to pull the email addresses off my address book in the first place. All the email messages had in the title the name of the person making the request prior to sending me the email to join Reunion.com.
This application was not authorized to access my private email data. And if I find out what application it is, I'm going to sue the living shit out of the culprit.

reunion.com is a scam!
When you sign up for reunion.com, it is a scam.
Note: They do not ask you for a password that is individual for reunion.com, but *instead,* they solely ask you for the password of your EMAIL box!!!!!
That way, when you are sleeping, they can go into into your email, and send out emails to everyone in your address book (or to others), and they come from *your* email box!!!!!
It should be illegal.
But people should read the fine print. No one should *ever* give away their email box password!!!!!!
Are they still doing it?
A female friend from college/high school "sent" me an email last September saying she wanted to "talk". The message was worded in such a way that I knew where it came from (not Diane), but didn't know how they did it.
After calling her she sent out emails letting everyone in her address book know that it wasn't her.
I got scammed on MyLife
I got scammed into this by being curious enough to click the whose searching for you free thing which brings you to MyLife...I entered my name and ultimately decided NOT to join this thing.
NOW they have a profile up of me with my mother and sister listed as family complete with addresses.
I did NOT want my mothers info up there. She is a senior for one thing and another she doesn't like the web - at least I have a myspace page. My mother is against all that stuff. So I tried to "delete myself" You cant. They say its public domain (which we all know those records are out there usually for a fee) but they take it one step farther. They search for you on all the social networks and put whatever they want to YOUR profile, including your pics, etc.
I can't believe they can get away with this and then tell you the only way to delete yourself is to give them MORE info about yourself. INCLUDING PUTTING IN YOUR PASSWORD!
THIS CANT BE LEGAL. ANY ONE KNOW A WAY TO GET AT THEM?
Yikes! Thanks for the warning.
Yikes! Thanks for the warning. I'm getting e-mail from mylife.com and wanted to know what the deal was.
Cheers,
Andrea
