How To Save Your Browser Bookmarks

March 27 2010 by iTuned

This article will discuss how to save your bookmarks for Opera, Internet Explorer, Mozilla Firefox, and Apple Safari.

As you surf the Internet you are likely to have accumulated many favorite sites over the years. Through that journey, you have saved those site locations through the use of browser bookmarks.

If you are going to reinstall your operating system you will lose all those bookmarks. Before doing so, its best to back them up and reinstall them. Here are steps to go about that for the most popular browsers.

Saving and Restoring Firefox Bookmarks

  • Run Firefox and click on the Bookmarks menu
  • Click on Organize bookmarks
  • At the top of the window is a toolbar
  • Click on Import and Backup
  • Select backup and save the file
  • Copy this file to a USB flash drive or any storage media used for backup purposes

After you have reinstalled Firefox, perform the same steps above but instead of backing up, choose Restore and then choose the bookmark backup file you saved.

Saving and Restoring Opera Bookmarks

  • Run Opera and click on the File Import and Export menu
  • Choose Export Opera Bookmarks
  • Save the file locally
  • Copy this file to a USB flash drive or any storage media used for backup purposes

After you have reinstalled Opera, go to the File Import and Export menu again. Choose Import Opera Bookmarks and load the file off backup file.

Saving and Restoring Internet Explorer Bookmarks

  • Launch Internet Explorer and click on the File Import and Export menu
  • Choose Export to a file and click the next button
  • Tick off Favorites and click the next
  • Select the Favorites folder and click next
  • Type in the location. Click the Export button. Make sure you save this file to a USB flash drive or any storage media used for backup purposes
  • Click the finished button

To restore your Internet Explorer bookmarks, go to the File Import and Export menu. Choose Import from a file and then tick off the Favorites box. Browse to the location of your backup bookmark file and then click Import.

Saving and Restoring Safari Bookmarks

  • Click the wheel on the right side of the screen
  • Make sure you have Show Menu Bar selected so that the File Edit View... is showing
  • Choose File Export Bookmarks
  • Save the bookmark file to a USB flash drive or any storage media used for backup purposes

To restore your Safari bookmarks, go to the File Import Bookmarks menu and choose the backup bookmark file located on your USB drive or backup media.
