Cityville Most Used App On Facebook

The latest Facebook application leaderboard shows that Farmville has been eclipsed handily as the number one application on Facebook. This, according to metrics firm AppData.

Zynga's new city building game CityVille, has shown stellar growth in a mere 6 weeks since launch having almost doubled the number of users who are playing Farmville.

CityVille's growth has come to a surprise ever since Facebook decided to put limitations on notifications to its users. This limitation has hurt Farmville's viral growth and continuing support as users no longer are spammed to generate visits to the application.

Instead, CityVille users have taken to the streets by using friend sharing, status messages, and user invites. Zynga, which is the largest gaming developer on Facebook, has used promotion from their other games to spur interest.

We picked up on CityVille's popularity back in mid December when the application was just starting to gain steam at around 20 million users. Today it has more than quadrupled in users.
