When it comes to Will Smith movies, I'm all for them. They always involve action and humor. Pursuit of Happyness, Bad Boys, Ali and Men In Black come to mind. Tonight was a Netflix night. I tuned in to watch the 2007 version of "I Am Legend" and was left bored to death and muttering, "that sucked".
The movie starts off based in 2012 several years after a viral pandemic hits the world and destroys most of mankind. Smith plays the role of Robert Neville a scientist looking for a cure surviving in the city of New York. Yes its one of those "Last Standing Man On Earth" kind of movies that was obviously adapted for today's over the top computer animation sequences.
I don't know about you, but depressing and gloomy movies turn me off. I mean if I go to a movie, I want to be entertained and leave feeling better than I walked in. "I Am Legend" has none of that. My time would have been better spent sleeping. Really.
Carnivorous human monsters resembling overly nimble physical freaks and dark roomed sequences were likened to playing the game Doom. The computer animation was unrealistic and unconvincing. It felt like it was trying too hard to impress and the novelty of it just wore thin.
When the movie ends, you realize how down you are and that the title doesn't live up to the movie's hype. It was weak, somewhat predictable and just plain uninspiring science fiction un-thriller.
