Call Of Duty 3 Modern Warfare 3 Hits Sales Record

Activision announced record breaking sales in the US and UK for the new Call of Duty: Modern Warfare 3 game.
In a press release sent out yesterday, Activision said that they have sold over 6.5 million copies and generated more than $400 million in first day sales for the popular title.
For the third year in a row, Activision has eclipsed its sales records for Call of Duty. In 2009, Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 sold 4.7 million copies on $310 million in revenue. And in 2010, Call of Duty Black Ops sold 7 million copies on $360 million in sales.
Buy the stock? Well, maybe
As a public company, you would think that the stock price would be flying through the roof. However, that would be wrong. The stock has basically gone nowhere.

World of Warcraft Subscriptions Fall
Activision's online game, World of Warcraft, continues to remain the biggest source of sales for the company making up over 40% of the pie. But there is concern that WoW is getting old with gamers. Back in May, Blizzard said they had 11.4 million WoW subscribers. After 3rd quarter 2011 results, the company said that number is down to 10.3 million. According to Blizzard, the loss came mostly from the Far East.
The folks at MMOData have been tracking the historical subscription levels on the largest subscribed massively multiplayer onlines (MMO) sites. Although the 10.3 million data point hasn't been accounted for, imagine it being in the chart. One can conclude that World of Warcraft (in green) looks a bit tired.

Blizzard's Holiday Season
With Christmas season just around the corner, should you fork up the $59.99? Recent Amazon.com reviews suggest so with a 3 out of 5 star rating. However, if you have been a diehard COD fan throughout the years, you may find that the game is not much different than previous versions and opt going for Battlefield 3.
