The Secret Service Does More Than You Think

While we know the US Secret Service is an important component of the protection of high ranking government officials, do you know they also serve other important services as well?
The Secret Service was created in 1865 as a division of the US Treasury Department with the primary purpose of combating the counterfeiting of US currency. At the time, 30-50% of the money in circulation was counterfeit.
After the assassination of President McKinley, the division was given the task of protecting the President. Over the years, responsibilities broadened to protect the Vice President, foreign dignitaries, President and Vice President elects and candidates, former Presidents and their families.
Secret Service also investigates financial crime including credit card fraud and identity theft and telemarketing fraud.
In Summary
