It's Here! Skype For iPad!

The highly anticipated wait is over. The official version of Skype for iPad is finally available. It couldn't have come any sooner and we are thrilled to get our hands on it.
Now you will be able to make video and voice calls over your Wi-Fi network and 3G to chat with other Skype users. With the integrated camera on your iPad, it is a no brainer to do video calls with family and friends.
The user interface is very simple. Along the left hand side is a menu bar that contains your account information, contacts and recent history. In the right pane, you will see your contacts.

If you tap on your name, a box will come up showing information such as:
- Your online status
- Profile information
- Ability to turn call forwarding on/off
- Amount of Skype credit
- Your online number
- Voicemail status

Tapping on a user brings up the contact box. Here you can request a video, voice, text, or SMS message:

Skype for iPad comes with default tag categories including:
- All Contacts
- iPad Contacts
- Online Contacts
- Saved Phone Numbers
- Skype Contacts

Clicking on the dialer icon in the upper menu brings up dialer box where you can make Skype to mobile and Skype to Skype voice calls:

Sharing photos and documents won't be available as currently the iPad as no means to do so - remember this is just a first release. Skype for iPad will work on the original iPad and iPad 2.
Note:
As of this post (8/1/11 10:00PM PST), Skype for iPad has not made its way into the US iTunes servers but should very soon. The version I am using is from the New Zealand Apple Store.
