Getting Ubuntu To Work With The Linksys WMP300N Wireless Card

July 9 2010 by Kerry Kobashi

UbuntuNo doubt Ubuntu is quickly catching on to be one of the favorite distributions in the Linux world. After having downloaded the newest Ubuntu release tonight, I am very impressed with the operating system. It is snazzy looking and very fast. One of the most popular Wireless cards out there is the Linksys WMP300N card. Out of the box, this card is not detected by Ubuntu. Here are instructions how to get this up and running.

Instructions for Installing Linksys WMP300N Under Ubuntu 10.04 and Above

  • Connect to the Internet by ethernet connection
  • Go to Synaptic Package Manager and do a search for ndiswrapper
  • Mark the ndiswrapper-common, ndisgtk, and ndisutils
  • Hit the apply button and wait for them to be installed
  • Go to the hardware manager at System | Hardware Drivers
  • Ubuntu should show in the window a list of drivers to install
  • Install the Broadcom STA Stateless wireless driver and reboot
  • At the top of Ubuntu is a toolbar. On the right hand side near the date is a network icon. Click on it.
  • Enter in your wireless information
