The #1 Selling Toy At Amazon For 2011

November 6 2011 by Kerry Kobashi

Angry Birds
It all started in 2009 when a company created among three friends in Helsinki released a game for the iPhone. It was no ordinary video game, rather one that would go on to be downloaded over 500 million times.

The company and game? Rovio Entertainment, known for the popular hit, Angry Birds.

While Rovio's success appears to be driven by its mobile and tablet games, there is something very interesting brewing in the world of toys. As of November 6, 2011, just a few weeks away from the start of Christmas season, the number one selling toy on Amazon is the Angry Birds Knock On Wood game:

Angry Birds Knock On Wood

The game consists of three angry birds, four green pigs, building blocks, a catapult and a deck of cards. Players flip a card and build the block structure. On each card are points. You accumulate points when you knock down all the pigs, as in the typical video game. The first person to 1000 points wins.

The game is recommended for kids ages five and up. Adults addicted to the video game will probably want to participate to get their fix on.

Apparently, Mattel got licensing rights from Rovio to produce this game. But one look at the box and you don't see the Mattel logo. A quick look at the Mattel website shows no marketing of the product. Strange given this is the number one toy on Amazon, if not the world currently.

Regardless, Angry Birds Knock On Wood is in short supply and is being sold at quite a premium over its $15.00 price ($26.99 at the time of this writing). The game has been on the Top 100 list for 194 days now and has got very good 4 1/2 star reviews from parents. The market on eBay has already caught wind of the short supply as vendors are selling the product at a high markup - up to 100% of original price.
