I thought about this question as I sat here watching my basket of stocks bounce up and down in the markets. In my portfolio and watchlist of stocks is the usual companies. I have some large caps, mid caps and small caps. And recently, I added some really crazy ETFs that are leveraged up the wazoo.

On the Internet when it comes to social networking sites, fads come and go. We saw this in Friendster as that user group quickly switched over to Myspace. Let's face it, people get tired of the same old thing. When it comes to social networking sites, being everything to everyone just doesn't work.

Giving away something for free and trying to find another way to monetize your existence is a drunken sailors crap shoot. Searching for something that just isn't there is a terrible way to run a company. When sites like these mature, they quickly find that their strategy switches to a means of keeping visitors, rather than trying to offer value that would want to keep them there. The problem is, the value is in the eye of the beholder. And when you give away something free, people continue to expect it.

Up The Movie

I admit it, I'm a sucker for superb animation movies - especially the brilliant stuff coming out from Pixar. While flipping through the tv a few weeks ago I saw the movie trailer to the movie "Up". Then I headed over to Disney's Up website to watch more trailers. I don't like taking crap. So it comes as no surprise that this month I told a client to essentially take a flying hike. I should have known better given the way this person communicated with me early on in a rather rude, impatient arrogant, and "Rome Is Burning" manner. It's not nice knowing people who think they can talk down to you and force themselves into your world dictating things. I work very well with people who are kind and know how to communicate and get their point across. What I don't appreciate are the "in your face" types that come across as some person using guerilla hard nosed tactics thinking that they can push you around to get things done or gain control.

The other day we caught a Tweet to popular Apple Fan Girl Justine Ezarik on Twitter from Kow! member Suzi Weller the owner of SuziSweets.com.

Suzi went out of her way and baked Justine a really cool looking Apple logo cake for her 25th birthday and drove all the way to San Francisco to deliver it personally. Interested in this work of art, we proceeded to Suzi's website and saw that she has some serious baking skills! We were so impressed that we got ahold of Suzi in our hometown San Jose for an interview.

Since getting on Twitter last week, I noticed something interesting. Twitter is the Internet's new cooler way to broadcast. I liken it to sending SOS messages while sitting stranded on an island in the Pacific. Only you are not putting a handwritten message in a bottle and throwing it out into the ocean.
